    • As a Las Animas County Commissioner, helped secure over 30 million dollars in Federal and State grant funds.
    • Increased the base wage of Las Animas County employees to a competitive level.
    • Secured funds from the Colorado Dept. of Transportation to upgrade Highway 12.
    • Secured over $1 million in energy impact funds for Primero RE-2 School District elementary school upgrades.
    • Secured Division of Wildlife grant funds in excess of $40,000 for Trinidad State Junior College Biology Department.
    • Appointed by Honorable Governor Bill Owens as a Colorado Division of Wildlife Commissioner. In January of 2007, following the blizzard that severely impacted southern Colorado, I helped secure over $100,000 in discretionary funds as a Colorado Division of Wildlife commissioner for the purposes of feeding livestock and wildlife in our district.

    Ken was named 2008 Hispanic Leader of the Year by the Trinidad-Las Animas County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at Twentieth Annual Community Awards Banquet.

    The Trinidad-Las Animas County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce holds the annual event in celebration to honor individuals who are highly effective and value their community, by taking the initiative to work in a proactive way, interacting with others, and constantly striving to improve the character fabric of Trinidad and Las Animas County.

    Board Director Mr. Sam Madrid, who serves as Vice-President of the Trinidad-Las Animas County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, presented the award saying, "Ken, your accomplishments and successes communicate all that you are and do for your community and fellow man. Your innate self-discipline is a powerful leadership skill that moves you in the most effective and successful direction to benefit those you serve, as well as those you listen deeply to, in an effort to bring people together to fulfill a vision for positive change and progress. Thank you!"
